Sao Paulo nowadays
posted in Photography, Sao Paulo by Rico Ferrari |Paulista Avenue used to be the financial center of Brazil. It’s not so anymore, as most business fled to other Sao Paulo’s regions and to Faria Lima avenue. Though Paulista avenue is still an important financial hub, its role now can be described more as a civic space where most of the city’s demonstrations take place (last month there was a small anti-Bush demonstration, for example). Also most of the city’s parties like the gay parade, labor’s day, new-year party, Saint Silvester Marathon take place in it. It’s served by a subway line and most of the good and affordable town’s hotels are in its neighborhoods. Click on the thumbs to a larger version. And here, the old times Sao Paulo.
A busy day in Paulista Avenue.
Luz Station, a hub to 2 suburban railway lines and red line subway, close to Pinacoteca do Estado (an arts Museum), Portuguese Language Museum (every dying entity deserves a Museum, no?) and the Religious Art Museum.
Se Cathedral, downtown.
Anhangabau Valley in downtown Sao Paulo (yes, even we Brazilians have difficulties to pronounce this Indian word).
Ipiranga Museum
Ibirapuera Park in southern Sao Paulo. Sao Paulo Arts Biennial and several other events take place here. Believe it or not, this lake is full of fish and more than a hundred biguas (Brazilian cormorans or black pelicans) feed on this lake’s fishes.
