Old building where is a feminine prison (Saint Ane Prison) at the north zone of Sao Paulo city. This was part of the notorious Carandiru Prison, where 111 eleven prisoners were killed by the police after a rebellion in 2th, october, 1992. Nowadays remains, from those Carandiru buildings, only the Feminine and the Romão Gomes Prison (prison to policemen). The rest of the area has now (in construction) a University and a park called Parque da Juventude (see more about it next post).
This kind of feast is rare, and has no precise time to happen (this one happened in 1974). One day Takuman, the page (chief of the tribe*) after take care of a sick man who was almost crazy of pain and seeing monstrous women, decided that it was time to provide this special party called Yamurikuma, where only women take part. They sing, dance and fight like man. At the end of the party they all bath at the river. We could say, they become Amazonas** for one day!

Elaine Davidson is a Brazilian former nurse which is again on the Guinness Book for breaking the record of body piercings: 3920. In her site she says she “also walks on beds of nails, fire and bits of glass, and holds a black belt in Judo which she earned in Japan” (no need for a joke here). She also runs a shop called Tropical Rainbow Paradise Shop. Yep, we have lots of rainbows over here in Brazil. “At least she doesn’t shot 32 colleagues as American are keen to do”, said a (very cynic) friend of mine. Hey, man, this time the “American” was a South-Korean.
Brazilians, as most Western citizens, have a strange urge to be famous - even in an odd way. The increasing numbers of internet access in some society layers and the web 2.0 phenomena make us, once in a while, find some Brazilians exposing themselves in a bizarre manner.
Below you can see Gigi, the latest example of how Brazilians enjoy mockering. This video has been seen for more than 100,000 people on Internet.
This is what Brazilian teens do for fun: Mock, film and post to youtube their underpaid nannies. At some point the woman says “Your sister is laughing at me, boy” and he says: “Don’t worry”. Nonetheless, the video shows how difficult is to most down to earth Brazilians understand or reproduce English language sounds.
This video shows the story of a guy who shot her ex-girlfriend on the streets of Curitiba, capital state of Parana, southern Brazil. Guess what? There’s a big chance he won’t serve a single day in prison after his release before judgment, as Brazilian law is very permissive in these matters. If a criminal has never be imprisoned beforehand (his case), his first crime usually get a very light punishment - if it is punished at all. If he have a good lawyer, that’s it, free like a bird in a matter of months.
The criminal was caught some blocks away from the crime’s scene and he didn’t impose resistance to imprisonment . As you can see on the video, again nobody of the courageous fellow Brazilians around dared to help the injured woman.
The girl, despite her early age - 23 years old - was divorced and had 3 children from his first marriage: 2 toddlers and a 6 years old girl. By the ending of the video the (jackass) reporter asked the murder: “What do you think you deserve?”. And he answered: “Maybe the death penalty”. Detail: Brazil don’t have death penalty. In one to five years he’ll probably be free again.
BTW, it’s a very violent video, don’t watch it if you’re sensible or under age. Click on the “more” link to watch it anyway.
A fun video (no porn, you pervert, heh) about a Brazilian Wax shop in England. And, yes, the girls do this here since the 80’s (and, man, it’s great, isn’t it?).
